Sharing your bank data with Soar
You have been asked to share your bank data with an organisation you applied to. This page explains who we are, what happens to your data and what you can do about it.
Who is Soar?
Soar Tech Ltd is a UK company registered in Scotland, company number SC717654. Our registered office is 52 West Princes Street, Helensburgh, G84 8UG.
We build software used by credit unions, community lenders and universities.
The organisation that sent you the link is our client. We act on their instructions.
Why am I seeing Soar’s name?
The organisation you applied to uses Soar to look at your bank transactions. This means you do not need to send them PDF bank statements.
You will be taken to your own bank to give permission. This is called open banking. It is a regulated system in the UK.
You log in with your bank, not with us. We never see your login details.
What am I agreeing to?
When you give consent, your bank shares your transactions through our open banking partner, Atto. Atto is regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).
- You choose which accounts to share.
- Your bank shares up to two years of transactions from those accounts.
- Your consent lasts 90 days.
- You can withdraw your consent at any time through your bank.
The organisation you applied to decides which period they look at. Many only look at your most recent one to three months.
What do you do with my data?
We show your transactions, sorted into categories, to the team assessing your application.
We do not:
- sell your data
- use your data for marketing
- share your data with anyone other than the organisation you applied to and the suppliers we need to provide the service
Your data is stored in the UK on Amazon Web Services. We protect it using security processes certified to ISO 27001:2022, an international standard for information security.
What are my rights?
Under UK data protection law (UK GDPR), you can ask to:
- see the data held about you
- correct it if it is wrong
- have it deleted, in some circumstances
Please contact the organisation you applied to first. They are responsible for your application and decide how your data is used. This makes them the data controller.
If you have a question about Soar’s role, you can contact us:
- Email: [email protected]
- Phone: 0330 122 2868
Our registration number with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) is ZB590350.
If you are unhappy with how your data has been handled, you can complain to the ICO at ico.org.uk.
What if my link has expired?
If your link has expired, or you want to add another bank, contact the team that sent it to you. They can send you a new link.
Where can I find out more?
